This is my attempt to document my procedures for converting my 2005 VW Jetta TDI wagon to run on vegetable oil.
I am installing a kit purchased from Frybrid that will enable me to run on either diesel from the stock fuel tank, or on vegetable oil from a secondary tank. The kit includes a tank, hoses, filter, valves, heat exchangers and computer controller.
All diesel engines can be converted to run on straight vegetable oil (SVO), as long as the vegetable oil is hot enough to reduce its viscosity. This is not the same as running on biodiesel, which is a reformation of the vegetable oil that also reduces the viscosity.
I am hoping to run on waste vegetable oil (WVO) which is vegetable oil that has already been used by a restaurant for food preperation. This oil, while not suitable for further food use, is still suitable for use as fuel. It needs to be filtered to remove the food debris, and heated to settle out any water.
